Happy Children’s Day

“We live in a wonderful world that is full of beauty, charm and adventure. There is no end to the adventures that we can have if only we seek them with our eyes open,” ~ Nehru

Children’s day is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. He is also known as Chacha Nehru. He was known for his immense love towards children and hence we celebrate his birthday as children’s day.

What is done on Children’s day? Schools celebrate children’s day by organising various cultural activities, fun games, sports, etc., especially for children.

Whereas, Little Elly in Anandnagar, Bangalore had this small green initiative event at the BBMP park nearby.

Children and parents gathered at the park in the morning. They helped children to plant rose saplings and X’mas tree. Children enjoyed the feel of coarse mud in their hand as they held fist full of it to plant the rose saplings. Later they enjoyed watering all the plants. The management has also taken the responsibility to take care of the saplings at the park.

Nehru, in his letters to Indira Gandhi writes the real way to understand the earth’s early story is not merely to read about it in other’s books but to go to the great Book of Nature itself.  “Every little stone that you see lying in the road or on the mountain side may be a little page in nature’s book and may be able to tell you something if you only knew how to read it.”

Recognising the significance of green initiative to ensure a safer and better environment to children, it was indeed a happy children’s day.
