Hello everyone and welcome to another episode of the Weekly News Podcast. This week it’s me Ifra Rameen.

Starting with National News:

14-year-old Girl’s Solar-Powered ironing cart is nominated for the Earth shot prize.

Manisha Uma Shankar from Tamil Nādu has developed a solar-powered “Estri cart” which has now been nominated for the earth shot prize this year, in the UK. The solar-powered iron cart operates with the battery at night, and with the help of solar energy during the day.  She says that iron vendors in India were heating charcoal and using it to power the iron. Charcoal causes air pollution, deforestation, climate change, and respiratory disease.


UN’s Girl  Up coalition in Los Angeles to be headed up by a Bengaluru Student.

17-Year-old Vedha Arikatla, a 12th grader from Bengaluru has been chosen as the president of the United Nations Girl Up Coalition campaign in Los Angeles, which consists of 64 clubs.  Vedha from Vidyaslip Academy will lead a campaign focussing on the empowerment of girl children. She was introduced to ‘Girl Up club’ in her school and she started her own club for the state called “girl up Karnataka during the lockdown.


Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will be the face of Congress for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly elections, says newly appointed campaign committee chief PL Punia. Be it Sonbhadra, Unnao, or Hathras incidents, and recently the Lakhimpur Kheri incident, Priyanka Gandhi has made her way to UP demanding justice for the victims. Recently, in Lakhimpur district, UP, eight people were killed while staging a protest for the welfare of farmers. The eight people of the deceased were four farmers and a journalist. Priyanka Gandhi, who is in charge of the Congress UP unit, also announced 40 percent party tickets to women, in the coming up assembly elections, and also confirmed that she is undecided on contesting for elections in UP, according to news reports.


India US yudh Abhyas 2021 gets underway

The 17th edition of the India- U.S bilateral exercise Yudh Abiyas 2021 got underway at Alaska, U.S. This exercise aims to sharpen the army skills in Counter-terror operations in mountainous and cold climate conditions. The exercise is scheduled from 15 October to 29.


Union  Cabinet approves ₹100 lakh – Crore ‘PM Gati Shakti Master Plan’

PM Modi had on October 13 launched the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan for multi-modal connectivity and bringing development of infrastructure on a common path.


Fab India pulls back it’s clothing ad after trolling.

On Monday “#BoycottFabIndia” had started to trend after BJP MP Tejasvi Surya not only criticised the brand for using the Urdu word ” Jashn-e-Riwaaz” in it’s diwali collection clothing but also said that brands like FabIndia must face “economic costs”. However, later the clothing brand had to withdraw its advertisement. Along with this, no bindi no business trend was started in twitter.  The clothing brand was also criticized for showcasing the models in the ad without a bindi.

Now, after this Ceat tyres Diwali advertisement featuring Bollywood Actor Amir Khan has also come into a back clash. The ad shows the actor advising people to not burst crackers on the streets. BJP MP Anantkumar Hegde has stating a letter to the company has said, that the advertisement is causing “unrest among the Hindus” and expressed hope in the future the organization will respect ” Hindu sentiments”


J&K signs MoU with Dubai for industrial parks, amid attack on minorities.

The J & K administration has signed a memorandum of understanding  (MoU) with Dubai for industrial parks, IT towers, multipurpose towers, and more, said Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal on Monday.


 India crosses 100 crores covid 19 vaccine doses

India as of 21st  October administered 1 billion or 100 crore vaccines. Now about 31 percent of the population is fully vaccinated, and 75 percent of the eligible adult population has received their 1st dose. PM Modi also congratulated healthcare workers.


 Moving on to International News:

New Delhi is likely to host NSAs on the Afghanistan issue.

New Delhi is likely to host a national security advisor meeting in Afghanistan next month. The meeting is scheduled for November 10 and 11th. Pakistan, China, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan are likely to be invited to take part in the meet.


Cannot delay the release of contaminated Fukushima plant into the ocean:  Japan Prime Minister

Japan’s new Prime Minister, Fumio Kishida has said not to delay the release of contaminated water from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, into the sea. In March 2011 the Nuclear Power plant was wrecked by a tsunami and earthquake. Since then The wastewater, which is pumped up from reactor basements and treated to remove all but one radioactive material, has built up at the site.

This move has been opposed by Fishers and the neighboring countries. South Korea, which continues to ban seafood imports from the region, has voiced concern, claiming that discharging the water represented a “grave threat” to the marine environment.

About 1million tonnes of contaminated water are being stored at the site, and Tokyo electric power has warned that the area will run out next year.


 A bizarre law in China: China drafts a law to punish parents for their children’s ” bad behavior ” The Chinese parliament will soon consider legislation to punish parents of those young children who exhibit “very bad behavior” or commit crimes.

The draft of the Family education program law also urges parents to spend more quality time with their children. Off late the government has exercised a more assertive hand this year, from tackling the addiction of youngsters to online games — deemed a form of “spiritual opium” — to clamping down on “blind” worship of internet celebrities.

In recent months, the Education Ministry has limited gaming hours for minors, allowing them to play online games for one hour on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday only, according to reports.


Trump to launch the new social media platform

Former U.S President Donald Trump, banned from social media platforms, Facebook and Twitter since the attack on the U.S Capitol, has announced to launch a social media platform called “truth social” to ” Stand up to the tyranny of Big Tech” companies. TRUTH Social is now available for Pre-Order in the Apple App store.  TRUTH Social plans to begin its Beta Launch for invited guests in November 2021.  A nationwide rollout is expected in the first quarter of 2022.  Those who are interested in joining TRUTH Social may now visit www.truthsocial.com to sign up for the invite list.
