Novel Coronavirus 2019 that has killed over 900 in China. Any infection in air, we first protect our young ones as we feel they are more susceptible to infections.
However, with Novel Coronavirus scare around, it looks like very few children who have developed severe symptoms, according to a published in Livescience. They do get infected by Coronavirus, but the symptoms remains mild. This same pattern was seen during the SARS and MERS outbreak too. No children died during SARS 2003 outbreak too, according to report by NYT
According to a report published in Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) the median age of patients is between 49 and 56 years. Cases in children have been rare. Adults especially patients with comorbid conditions such as diabetes or hypertension developed acute respiratory distress syndrome and required care in the intensive care unit.
Why children are not showing severe symptoms?
According to Livescience reports, this may be because of the immune system. Children have robust immune system when compared to adults. Adults also have many other ailments such as diabetes, hypertension, autoimmune disorders, cardiovascular disease, or even simple obesity, make them highly susceptible to Novel coronavirus.
